INDIA'S continued slump in international T20 cricket very much gathered pace in startling fashion at Trent Bridge as they hurtled to a record breaking defeat in the third T20 International, set a target of 202 and bowled out for just 76 as England won by 125 runs.

Phil Salt led the way with the bat, hitting 70 runs from just 44 balls to give England a flying start, and India barely managed to score as many between the whole team in response. They were out for 76, their second lowest total in a T20 International, as the margin of defeat, a fourth in a row for the two time reigning T20 world champions, proved by far the heaviest they have suffered in the format.

Having arrived in Ireland 10 days earlier with a record of 16 T20 International series and tournaments in a row unbeaten, India looked under cooked again. The game had in fact started positively for them. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and this time opted to chase, but that move backfired even more spectacularly than at Emirates Old Trafford in the previous match, with England making 201 for 7 from their 20 overs. Alongside Salt's 70, Sam Curran struck 41 as the hosts set a formidable target.

Any thought that India might be in the game was expunged by Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue in the first few overs. England's 90mph new ball pairing shared seven wickets between them in the rout as India collapsed to 52 for 5, with India fans short changed and leaving the venue in vast numbers.

The end was quick. India were dismissed in 11.4 overs, barely half of the allotted 20, with none of their batters managing to score more than 13. Archer finished with 3 for 29 and Tongue with the outstanding figures of 4 for 28 as England romped to a 125 run victory that laid bare just how far India have fallen in the shortest format.
