The Story of the Match

CHARLTON ATHLETIC drew a blank with QPR in a London derby in front of a crowd of 21,290 in SE7. Both sides had chances, with ex-QPR strikers Lyndon Dykes and Charlie Kelman going close for the home side and Richard Kone spurning the best opening for the R's, but neither could find a breakthrough.

Charlton Athletic came into the match off the back of two wins against Leicester City (away) 2-0 last time out and Sheffield United (home) 1-0, and three losses against Millwall (away) 0-4, Derby County (home) 1-2 and Chelsea in the FA Cup 3 (home) 1-5. QPR kicked off the first half defending the Jimmy Seed Stand End. Richard Kone saw a right-footed shot from inside the Charlton penalty area saved easily by Thomas Kaminski in the 2nd minute. Harvey Vale was yellow carded in the 4th minute for a high boot on Conor Coady. Richard Kone and Isaac Hayden saw weak right-footed shots go wide in the 7th and 11th minutes as QPR looked to counterattack.

Lyndon Dykes saw a right-footed shot from 22 yards take a deflection off Steve Cook and go out for a corner in the 12th minute, and in the 20th minute the loose ball fell to Dykes from a corner, but his effort was fired high and wide. The Addicks were having the best of the first half, and Dykes shot wide again from 15 yards in the 28th minute. In the 29th minute Sonny Carey saw a left-footed shot from 12 yards blocked by Jimmy Dunne, and in the 31st minute a Luke Chambers free kick was pushed low to his right by Joe Walsh for a corner. Conor Coady then saw a close-range right-footed shot saved by Walsh's legs in the 32nd minute. Charlton were the better team in the opening 45 minutes and the teams went in level at half time.

Charlton kicked off the second half and Charlie Kelman fired a right-footed shot on target which Walsh tipped away for a corner in the 47th minute. A QPR corner in the 49th minute, taken by Nicholas Madsen, ended with Steve Cook volleying high and wide in the 50th minute. Luke Chambers' left-footed shot from 15 yards was saved by Walsh in the 54th minute, and Lyndon Dykes' close-range effort was also saved by the QPR goalkeeper, with the follow-up put wide in the 57th minute.

QPR replaced Koki Saito with Daniel Bennie in the 58th minute. Charlton went close through an Amari Bell left-footed shot which flew over from close range after a long throw in the 63rd minute. A QPR corner in the 67th minute, taken by Madsen into the near post, saw Daniel Bennie head wide. Charlton replaced Charlie Kelman with Matty Godden in the 70th minute.

On the counterattack in the 73rd minute Rhys Norrington-Davies fired a left-footed shot wide. Charlton replaced Luke Chambers with Tyreece Campbell in the 75th minute, and as soon as he came on Campbell whipped down the left and crossed into Sonny Carey at the back post, but his right-footed shot went wide of the far post. QPR replaced Paul Smyth with Rayan Kolli in the 77th minute, and Kone's weak left-footed shot was saved by Kaminski in the 80th minute. Both sides had chances in the closing stages but neither could find a winner in what remained a tight encounter.
